New up and coming star, Mecia, speaks to ambiance about how it feels now her whole life has changed! After winning ‘Pop Idol 2011’ we jumped at the opportunity for an exclusive tell all interview!

Firstly! What did you do to celebrate on the night you won?!
Honestly? Once the show had filmed all they needed to, I went home back to my mums and fell asleep straight away! I guess I was too tired to party!
What made you so passionate about singing?
I’m not sure really! I was part of a theatre group as a child, and I remember how much I loved getting the singing leads in performances we did! I was lucky to have supportive parents.
How does it feel to have your name filling up the shelves of music stores as we speak?
Is it cliché to say it’s a dream come true? Because it really is! I’m still ever so overwhelmed by all of it. Never in my most wild dreams did I expect to make it even onto Pop Idol, let alone go as far as I did to come out first, I’m so proud of myself for the effort I put in, those hard working 18 weeks feel so worth it now!
While staying in the Pop Idol house did you make any lasting friendships?
Oh definitely! Some days I’m not sure what I would have done without having Lucy there! On my bad days she’d come find me after rehearsals with a packet of biscuits and a cuppa. We said from the first week that no matter what happens in the show we’d like to stay in contact!
Who are your biggest inspirations?
I’m inspired by so many different artists from different times and genres of music, but probably the ones who were most influential on my voice were bands like U2 and Coldplay, and contemporary artists too, such as Adele.
The show proved that you had a very versatile voice, what kind of image do you wish to portray when making your album?
I’d like to keep my image like that as I progress, I don’t want to be an artist that only fits into one category with a small fan base, I’d like to try different things as if I’m honest, I’m still learning myself! This is all so different for me.
Are you looking forward to the change of lifestyle?
It makes me a little bit nervous! I’ve always been a homely girl, I love spending a night on the sofa with my mum and a take away, but after spending the 18 weeks on the show I’m really, really looking forward to going on tour with every-one from the show! They’re such amazing people and it’s been such an amazing life experience being part of‘Pop Idol 2011’!
